The woman in the painting is Eve, about to cut a lemon.
The customary way to picture forbidden fruit--as an apple--is just an old art tradition. The Bible doesn't actually say which fruit it was. I decided to try something different, like a lemon and a pear (see "Lady With Pear"). It feels like each fruit gives a slightly different flavor to the original sin.
